undertaking Access Audits of premises in both the public and
private sectors to advise on whether or not the premises meet the
requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.
Web Accessibility
This is an
important access issue in today's society. Websites must not exclude
disabled people. The design must conform to various industry standards
and result in a better Internet experience for all users.
The
Disability Discrimination Act 1995 requires service providers and
employers not to discriminate against disabled people. This means the
usability of websites. Most tools used to design and build sites do not
generate pages that conform to web accessibility guidelines, including
Bobby and
W3C conventions.
Providing
alternative text for images, fully expanding abbreviations and acronyms
and ensuring navigation experiences are consistent are just some of the
requirements for web accessibility. Addressing these issues and more
produces a website that is more usable for all visitors.
